                                                                                LIAH ALONSO:
Saving the planet, one song at a time...

A captivating performer and gifted song-writer, once labeled a misfit and an outcast, her music reflects a life story that asserts her belief in the transformative healing power of music.

You may have heard Liah playing in Central Park or cheering up the New York City subways with her joyful melodies and contagious smile. You may have seen her perform on NY Rocks TV, or heard her at a peace march in Washington D.C. with her former band "The Suffragette's", or watched her at her many shows in NYC cafes, clubs and bars.

Many of Liah's songs and stories stem from her unique international upbringing (born in California to a Mexican Jewish mother and a Spanish father, and commuting for years between Mexico and the United States). As a child, her unique perception of the world, along with her assertiveness, led to daily battles at school and with adult figures of all kinds. Still, even in the worst of times, Liah relied on music, writing and acting to connect with others and interpret her often strange life experiences.

While pursing her education, she earned her living as a Spanish/English interpreter for Children's Social Services and Ryker's Island State Penitentiary. Her curiosity for musical instruments led her to study piano, trombone, guitar, cello and kazoo. She has collected instruments from all over the world and often incorporates them into her dynamic repertoire. Her travels in Asia, Africa and Latin America, along with her studies in media and culture at New York University, assert her passion for human rights and her work as an activist.

In partnership with Kelly Halloran, a consummate jazz violinist, Liah has recently formed Left on Red, a band that transcends industry-imposed definitions and redefines the pop rock genre by combining sweet harmonies, deep and fierce vocals, and improvisational guitar/violin melodies. Left on Red just recorded their first EP which will be released in March. Its ground-breaking music and socially-relevant lyrical content, will take the world by storm.
